About XDC
The XDC Network is a blockchain designed to facilitate trade finance and the tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs). As an EVM-compatible blockchain, it uses a Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism to ensure security, fast transactions, and scalability. The network includes a Layer-2 subnet system, enabling users to deploy sovereign and privacy-focused sidechains that inherit the security of the XDC mainnet. This architecture makes the XDC Network well-suited for entities requiring dedicated blockchain environments with enhanced control, such as financial institutions, businesses, and government agencies. Validator masternodes play a key role in the network's operation. To become a masternode operator, a stake of 10 million XDC is required. The XDC mainnet has undergone an upgrade to XDC 2.0, integrating advanced Byzantine fault tolerance (BFT) security and a forensics monitoring system into its consensus mechanism. Developed by a protocol team led by Professor Pramod Viswanath from Princeton University, XDC 2.0 enhances validator accountability through automated yet discretionary oversight. XinFin is a Singapore-based fintech company that develops enterprise-grade blockchain solutions for global trade and finance. Founded in 2017 by Ritesh Kakkad and Atul Khekade, the company launched the XDC Network, with its mainnet becoming operational in 2019. Kakkad is a seasoned tech entrepreneur with extensive experience in cloud computing. Khekade, a computer engineer, previously led efforts at MonetaGo to develop the first permissioned blockchain network for a consortium of major Indian banks. Together, they aimed to create a blockchain optimized for trade finance. To advance this vision, they brought on André Casterman, a former SWIFT executive with over two decades of experience, who now plays a key role in driving innovation and adoption of the XDC Network within traditional finance. The XDC Network distinguishes itself through its active community, which plays a key role in advancing its adoption within the Real World Assets (RWA) and Trade Finance sectors. The network was the first blockchain invited to join the Trade Finance Distribution Initiative (TFDi), a consortium of major banks and financial institutions working to address the global trade finance gap. It also became a member of the ITFA's Digital Negotiable Instruments Initiative (DNI). Tradeteq facilitated the first trade finance-based non-fungible token (NFT) issuance on the XDC Network. Additionally, through collaboration with Tradeteq and Securitize, the network introduced USTY, a compliant U.S. Treasury token representing shares in a U.S. Treasury bond ETF. SBI Holdings partnered with TradeFinex, an institutional-grade, ISO20022-compliant protocol for Trade Finance, to expand the XDC Network’s applications in global trade finance and cross-border payments. The network is also utilized by TradeTrust, a platform developed by Singapore’s IMDA, which enhances document authentication under the Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records (MLETR) to improve security and efficiency in cross-border transactions. The XDC Network supports a range of RWA products designed to increase accessibility to trade finance assets in capital markets while providing financing opportunities for underserved MSMEs. Teams working with the XDC Network emphasize that trade finance is a leading use case for blockchain technology, with public networks like the XDC Network driving industry-wide transformation.
