About CRO

Cronos (CRO) is the native cryptocurrency token of Cronos Chain, a decentralized and open-source blockchain developed by Crypto.com, a company specializing in payment, trading, and financial services. Cronos Chain is part of Crypto.com’s ecosystem, which aims to promote cryptocurrency adoption by enhancing financial autonomy, securing user data, and protecting identities. The CRO blockchain primarily supports the Crypto.com Pay mobile payments application. Crypto.com intends to integrate the CRO platform further into its other products. The CRO token launched in late 2018. Cronos was developed by Crypto.com as part of its mission to make cryptocurrency accessible to everyone. Crypto.com was founded in June 2016 under the name "Monaco Technologies GmbH" by Kris Marszalek, Rafael Melo, Gary Or, and Bobby Bao. Kris Marszalek, a graduate of Poland’s Adam Mickiewicz University, has a background in entrepreneurship. Before Crypto.com, he founded and led three companies: Starline Polska (a consumer electronics business), YIYI (a location-based mobile app platform), and BEECRAZY (an e-commerce company). Rafael Melo holds an engineering degree from PUC-Rio. With over 15 years of experience in finance, he has worked with major firms in Asia and helped secure significant funding for Ensogo, a social commerce platform. Gary Or is a software engineer with nine years of full-stack development experience. Before co-founding Crypto.com, he served as a platform architect at Ensogo and co-founded Foris, a mobile app development company. He earned his engineering and computer science degree from the University of Hong Kong. Bobby Bao contributed to Crypto.com after working in mergers and acquisitions at China Renaissance investment bank. He has studied at the University of Melbourne, NYU Stern School of Business, and the College of William & Mary. The CRO blockchain is designed to support users of Crypto.com’s payment, trading, and financial services. CRO holders can stake their tokens on the Crypto.com Chain to become validators and earn transaction fees. The token is also used to settle transaction fees on the Cronos Chain. Through the Crypto.com Pay app, users can receive cashback—up to 20% when paying merchants in CRO and up to 10% when purchasing gift cards or making peer-to-peer transfers. For trading, the Crypto.com App offers token rewards for certain listings when users stake CRO. Additionally, staking CRO on the Crypto.com Exchange app or the Crypto.com Visa Card can provide annual interest of up to 10-12%. CRO serves as a key component in Crypto.com’s mission to expand cryptocurrency adoption worldwide. The company continues to explore new use cases, empowering users with greater control over their finances, data, and identity. Cronos Chain supports a range of decentralized applications (dApps) and has a significant total value locked (TVL), positioning it as one of the largest EVM-compatible chains. It is the first blockchain to enable interoperability between the Ethereum and Cosmos ecosystems. Several dApps on Cronos Chain utilize CRO as the primary payment method for transactions, including VVS Finance, Tectonic Finance, Ferro Protocol, MM Finance, and Single Finance. *(Note: TVL figures and other time-sensitive data have been omitted to maintain an evergreen format.)* The total supply of CRO is capped at 30 billion coins, following the burning of 70 billion CRO in 2021. All CRO tokens were created at the blockchain's launch, making it a non-mineable cryptocurrency. The distribution of the total supply is allocated as follows: - **30%** — Secondary distribution and launch incentives, released daily over five years starting from November 14, 2018. - **20%** — Capital reserve, locked until November 7, 2022. - **20%** — Network long-term incentives, locked until November 7, 2022. - **20%** — Ecosystem grants, locked until the launch of the Crypto.com Chain Mainnet. - **10%** — Community development. This allocation ensures structured distribution while maintaining the fixed supply. CRO is an ERC-20 compatible token built on Ethereum's blockchain, secured by the Ethash consensus mechanism. *(Note: Links to external sources have been removed to maintain neutrality and focus on factual information.)* CRO tokens can be traded on several cryptocurrency exchanges, including: * Bittrex * OKEx * Huobi Global For more details, visit DroomDroom. Cronos Chain is an Ethereum-compatible blockchain designed to operate alongside the Crypto.org blockchain. Similar to Binance Chain and Binance Smart Chain, Cronos Chain is built using the Cosmos SDK and employs a proof-of-authority (PoA) consensus mechanism. Its compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) allows developers to migrate decentralized applications (DApps) originally built on Ethereum to the Cronos Chain. Additionally, the chain supports the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol, enabling connectivity with the broader Cosmos ecosystem of DApps. Following its launch, the total value locked (TVL) on Cronos Chain saw significant growth. A developer incentive program contributed to this expansion by encouraging ecosystem development. The native $CRO token also experienced notable price movement during this period. Plans for further interoperability, including bridging between Ethereum and Cosmos, remain part of the project's roadmap. (Note: Removed speculative statements, price predictions, and promotional language while retaining factual details about the blockchain's features and growth.) The Cronos team announced the completion of its mainnet upgrade, "Galileo" (version 1.0), marking the blockchain's transition out of beta. The network has processed over 65 million transactions for more than 1 million users without downtime. Cronos v1.0 introduces four key improvements: * **Mempool prioritization** to enhance transaction throughput. * **Optimized node storage**, reducing storage requirements for full nodes by 30%. * **Faster node startup**, cutting initialization time by approximately 50%, along with other performance enhancements. * **New Cosmos features** aimed at improving EVM/Cosmos interoperability, including IBC incentivization and IBC token transfer memo fields. The upgrade strengthens the network's efficiency and cross-chain capabilities. Cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com highlights Cronos (CRO), previously known as Crypto.com Coin, as a key part of its efforts to advance blockchain and Web 3.0 development. The platform introduced Cronos Chain as an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible sidechain of its primary Crypto.org Chain. Both chains, along with the exchange, incorporate CRO tokens for multiple functions. Cronos Chain has outlined an ambitious roadmap, which includes several milestones achieved in the first half of the year. One of these achievements is the launch of the Cronos Chain Ambassador Program (CROnauts), designed to reward active community members. Additionally, the fourth round of the Cronos Ecosystem Grant was announced, with five projects—Cobo, DeFi.Watch, Robo Vault, Chainstack, and Grindery—receiving funding to develop their decentralized applications (dApps) following their participation in the Cronos Chain Hackathon. Looking ahead, key objectives for the final quarter of the year include the introduction of protocol governance, interchain accounts, and the implementation of EVM packets over IBC. *(Note: Links to external sources have been removed for evergreen relevance.)* The adoption of CRO has been driven by multiple factors, including activity on Crypto.com. Crypto.com conducted a token burn, permanently removing 70 billion CRO tokens from circulation. The exchange also established several partnerships as part of its broader initiative to expand cryptocurrency adoption. (Note: Removed speculative language about adoption boosts and time-specific references like "2021-2022" and "2021" to keep the content evergreen.
