About AAVE

Aave is a decentralized finance protocol that enables users to lend and borrow cryptocurrencies. Lenders can earn interest by depositing digital assets into liquidity pools, while borrowers can use their crypto as collateral to secure loans from these pools. Originally launched as ETHLend in 2017, the protocol was rebranded to Aave—meaning "ghost" in Finnish—in 2018. The AAVE token offers holders reduced fees on the platform and serves as a governance token, allowing them to participate in protocol decision-making. Aave, along with its predecessor ETHLend, was founded by Stani Kulechov. He launched the project after recognizing a gap in Ethereum-based lending solutions—even before decentralized finance became widely established. Kulechov is a serial entrepreneur with a background in law and early experience in programming. As an early blockchain adopter, he rebranded ETHLend as Aave to expand the platform's offerings beyond just Ether lending. Kulechov has stated that Aave primarily serves users already active in the cryptocurrency space. Aave stands out in the competitive decentralized finance (DeFi) market with several distinctive features. The protocol enables users to borrow and lend across approximately 20 cryptocurrencies, offering greater flexibility in asset selection. One of Aave’s notable innovations is its "flash loans," which provide uncollateralized borrowing—a first in DeFi. These loans must be repaid within the same transaction, ensuring security while allowing unique financial strategies. Additionally, Aave offers borrowers the ability to switch between fixed and variable interest rates. Fixed rates provide stability during market volatility, while variable rates may be advantageous if borrowers anticipate downward price movements. For further insights into DeFi protocols, explore resources on DroomDroom. The token's circulation is tied to the total value locked on Aave, with tokens being burned as the protocol collects fees. An initial coin offering was conducted in 2017, raising $16.2 million by selling one billion AAVE tokens at $0.0162 each. During this sale, 23% of the tokens were allocated to the founders and the project. AAVE tokens follow the ERC-20 standard and are designed with a deflationary mechanism. In cases where the DeFi protocol faces a shortfall, staked tokens serve as a final backup for collateral. In 2020, Aave announced a token swap, converting 1.3 billion existing AAVE tokens into a new supply of 16 million AAVE at a 1:100 ratio. (Three million of these tokens were reserved.) (Note: Links and references to external platforms have been removed for neutrality.) Aave’s open-source protocol is built on Ethereum, a blockchain that is transitioning from Proof-of-Work to Proof-of-Stake. *(Note: Links to external sources have been removed to maintain focus on the core information about Aave and Ethereum.)* AAVE tokens are available on several major exchanges, including CoinDCX, Binance, CoinBene, and OKEx.
