Band Protocol is a cross-chain data oracle platform designed to bridge real-world data with on-chain applications. It enables smart contracts to interact with off-chain data sources by connecting APIs, facilitating seamless information exchange between decentralized and traditional systems.

The platform provides verifiable real-world data to blockchains, expanding the possibilities for decentralized application (DApp) development. Developers can integrate various types of external data—such as sports results, weather updates, random number generation, and price feeds—directly into their DApp logic.

Originally launched as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, Band Protocol later migrated to the Cosmos network with the release of Band Protocol 2.0. The updated protocol operates on BandChain, which is built using the Cosmos SDK. Oracle nodes on BandChain serve a dual function: they relay data while also participating in block production and validation.

BAND is the native token of the Band Protocol ecosystem. It functions as collateral for validators who fulfill data requests and serves as the primary medium of exchange on BandChain, including payments for private data services.
